As the temperatures climb, your beauty routine may be a little less intense. After all, with the hot, long days, and the moments spent laying out at the beach, you may just want to sweep all your hair into a topknot, and call it good! But we think you can do more than just survive the summer, you can streamline your morning rhythm and still look picture perfect:
-Use sunscreen, every day! You may think you are doing okay with the sunscreen, because you apply it when you head to the lake or out on the boat, but the truth is that you need to be applying sunscreen every day, even if it’s cloudy. This broad spectrum facial sunscreen is a great option, even on days when you don’t want to wear makeup, because it blends in and gives you a nice glowy look without being “shiny”. Don’t forget to check the back of your sunscreen to find out how long it lasts, and reapply accordingly.
-Find a pretty hairstyle that keeps it off your neck and face: When you’re sweating, the last thing you want is your hair sticking to your skin and face. We recommend finding a stylish ‘do that you can manage quickly, even when you’re crunched for time. Try a gorgeous dutch braid like this one, or if your hair is naturally wavy or curly, try a finishing spray that can take you from the beach to brunch in just a few spritzes.
-Try slipshorts under the clingy sundresses: Summer is the time when we all don those adorable sundresses, and they often are made of modal, rayon, or polyester, which can be clingy, not to mention sweat-inducing. If you don’t want to give up your favorite romper or dress in favor of a cotton version, you can check out a cooling slipshort that will keep your outfit from clinging on hot days with it’s wicking technology.
-Use a setting spray for your makeup: If you like to wear foundation and eyeshadow during the summer, and you don’t want to risk losing that perfect contour from your bronzer, try spraying a setting product on after it’s done. These specialized sprays help keep your makeup in place and prevent it from “melting” in extreme heat. Beware that these sprays can clog pores, however, so make sure you wash your face and exfoliate often.
-Protect your hair: Chlorine from the pool, heat, and heat styling can really do a number on your hair during the warmer months, so it’s important to use a clarifying shampoo like this one. Try to avoid shampooing every day, as it can dry hair out, and be sure to baby your hair by carefully towel drying from end to end. Another great idea is to sleep on a satin pillowcase, which can reduce frizz and keep hair shiny.
-Polish and protect your nails: Lots of fun in the water can cause your nails to split and crack, which may mean you need to give yourself a little spa treatment. Use a simple sugar scrub with Vitamin E to exfoliate your whole hands, including your nails, and then apply moisturizer, and add gloves or socks over your hands overnight to help the moisture stay locked in and absorb. Vitamin C and folic acid supplements can also improve overall nail health (plus, Vitamin C boosts your immune system!).
